East Tyrol has among the most reliable snow conditions in the Alps. Plenty of
space on the slopes. Skiing all the way up to the hotel door. These are three of
the benefits of having Hotel Goldried as your base for your skiing holiday.
Grossglockner Resort Kals-Matrei is East Tyrol's largest interconnected ski
area. Here you'll find yourself in the centre of Europe's largest National Park,
Hohe Tauern, right next to Austria's highest mountain.
In Kals-Matrei you'll find everything from child-and family-friendly slopes to
downhill runs of the highest difficulty. The longest slope is a whopping 11
kilometres long. You set off at 2,426 metres altitude and glide all the way to
Hotel Goldried at 1,000 metres.
The Matrei-side of the mountain is perfect for groups made up of different
generations who want to ski together – not least because the blue, red and black
pistes meet in several places. Add to this that Matrei is located on the sunny
side of Grossglockner Resort, giving you ample opportunity to work on your tan.
A new snow gun system makes sure there's always snow on the slopes.
On the top is a restaurant with plenty of space for large groups. The children's
slope and skiing school are close by. In addition, there are several cosy huts
to choose from all around the slopes. Here you and your skiing companions can
rest your tired legs while enjoying some mulled wine, hot chocolate or apple
strudel.
And best of all: you'll avoid any crowding and long waiting times by the lifts.
This is partly thanks to Kals-Matrei consisting of many slopes and is East
Tyrol's largest ski area, partly thanks to fast and efficient transport. Because
the network of slopes is served by 16 state-of-the-art gondolas and ski lifts.
In short: here you have the skis on the snow - not in the air.
