The Amundøy Island Rorbu, on the western coast of Norway, is the ideal place
for your next vacation! You'll find these beautifully restored Holiday
apartments, formerly an old storehouse for salted cod and polloc, only a 30
minutes drive away from the famous 250 year old town of Kristiansund on the
Atlantic coast.
This part of western Norway offers a rich variety of experiences. You can spend
a day in the old salt fish town of Kristiansund. In earlier days, Kristiansund,
with its nice, natural harbour had a lot of commerce with Germany, Spain and
Portugal. A 30 min. boat trip out in the Atlantic takes you to the famous small
island of Grip which until just a few years ago was the smallest community in
Norway. You may also see one of the smallest stave churches of Norway in Grip.
An other day you may visit the newly built "Atlantic road" which is a fabulous
piece of road at the outer most part of the main-land, jumping from one small
island to the other at abouth 9 km. From that road you may also take a fishing
boat to visit "Haaholmen" which is a fantastic restored community, now run by
the Torset family. The family is well known for their viking ship copies. If
you go there you may see and even try a viking ship.
An other hour driving trip from Amundøy Island will take you to the "town of
Roses" named Molde. This town is well known for it's marvelous view of the
Romsdal alps. In July/August you may attend the jazz festival in Molde. The
fabulous Trollstigen road and the World Heritage fjord of Geiranger is also
within easy reach from Amundøy.
The Amundøy Island is not very large, you can easily walk around it in 20
minutes. You may encounter raspberries, heather and wild-flowers as well as a
beautiful seascape! Three small islands form a small community with pictoresque
small houses. Only 20-30 people live there. It is a good place for vacationers
to relax
From Oslo you drive the E-6 road north, make an interesting stop at the Olympic
arenas at Lillehammer and continue on towards Kristiansund. The drive from Oslo
is abouth 580 km. on mostly good roads, so it is easy to get to Amundøya in one
day. From Oslo or Bergen you also have easy flight connections.
